Removing wax from carpets and rugs can be quite tricky, especially if they are made up of wool or silk. With the growing popularity of candle warmers and scented candles, the use of these single-use light sticks has skyrocketed. Wax spills have become a common problem with the rise in the usage of candles. Nonetheless, with some basic knowledge and proper tools, you can get rid of wax spills from your carpets without any professional help.

Best Method To Remove Wax Out Of Carpet
Tools Required To Remove Wax From Carpet
- Credit/debit card or any other plastic card
- Vacuum cleaner
- Iron
- Paper towel or clean pieces of cloth
Steps to Remove Wax From Carpet
Step 1: –
The first thing you need to do is take out the wax spilled as much as you can with your credit card or any similar plastic card. Be cautious while scraping wax from carpets; you don’t want to scratch too hard and destroy the carpet fabric. Keep scratching until the excess amount of wax is coming out of it.
Now take a plastic bag and place some ice cubes in it. Then set this bag on top of spilled wax. This will harden the wax as much as possible, making it easier to split into pieces.
Step 2: –
Use your vacuum cleaner to suck up hardened wax. Continue to freeze, break, and vacuum it again and again until there is only a small residue left.Step 3: –
Once you have vacuumed spilled wax from the carpet as much as possible, you need to melt the residue wax into a liquid state. This will make it quicker to absorb and remove the remaining portion. Place a part of the paper towel or cloth on the spill and put an iron on it. Don’t place the iron directly over the carpet to avoid burning it.Step 4: –
Even when the wax spill is removed, you can have a light stain or some residue on your carpet. If that is the case then mix one part of ammonia with eight parts of clean water to make a carpet solution. Blot the stain using a white rag cloth soaked in this solution. Keep blotting until no more wax stain is absorbed into the cloth.Step 5: –
If not, make a solution consisting of equal parts of water and baking soda. Mix it properly until you have a thick white paste. Cover the wax stain with this paste and let it dry. The paste will slowly absorb all the colour from stain. Vacuum the dried paste and repeat this step again and again.Step 6: –
You don’t want baking soda and ammonia to sit on your carpets for too long. So when the stain is completely removed, pour a small quantity of cold water on the affected area and dry it using a paper towel. Repeat this process 3 to 4 times and then cover the affected area of carpet with a clean cloth. Leave it overnight and vacuum the carpet next morning.
